What Eternal and Swiggy do

Eternal

Eternal is the company behind Zomato. It runs food delivery through Zomato, quick commerce through Blinkit (groceries, electronics and everyday goods in about 10 minutes from 2,751 small stores), going out through District (table bookings and tickets for movies, concerts and sports) and Hyperpure, which supplies about 85,000 restaurants. Blinkit is now the largest by far, but food delivery earns the profit: ₹627 crore in Jul–Sep 2026 on the company's own measure, against ₹184 crore at Blinkit.

Swiggy

Swiggy runs food delivery, bringing meals from 2.66 lakh restaurants to 1.98 crore customers a month, and Instamart, quick commerce from 1,240 dark stores in 133 cities, alongside Dineout for table bookings and local events and a business selling goods in bulk to shops. Food delivery earned ₹341 crore in Jul–Sep 2026, its best quarter yet on the company's own measure; Instamart lost ₹895 crore. Nearly half of reported sales is the bulk supply business.

04

What they have built, and what is coming

Eternal

Two purchases shaped it — Blinkit in August 2022, and the ticketing businesses behind District — and the rest it built. Blinkit is heading for about 3,500 stores by March 2027 and 5,000 by March 2028, and by choice sells no brand of its own, so it never competes with the brands on its shelves. It keeps starting new things: Bistro; Nugget, AI customer support it built for itself and now sells to other businesses; and dark.ai, a private AI assistant due to launch worldwide within 2026. It holds ₹16,475 crore of cash and has no bank loans.

Swiggy

By building, and by trimming what it does not need. It sold its Rapido stake for ₹2,399 crore and part of its supply business to Udaan, and raised ₹10,000 crore of new shares at ₹375 in December 2025, which leaves ₹13,662 crore of cash and no bank loans. Instamart is betting on goods you cannot get elsewhere: its own clean-food brand, No!ce, is in 1 in 8 orders, and from Oct–Dec 2026 Instamart starts owning the goods it sells. New bets include Toing, a budget-meals app bringing in new users, and Crew, a helper for everyday tasks.

05

There are no promoters: Info Edge is the largest holder at 12.38%. Staff share awards cost ₹819 crore in FY26, more than twice the year's profit.
